Engine Tune Up

hey guys,

i was wondering if anyone has done any kind of tuning to their V. If so, how much did it cost? and is it any good? i am talking about the tuning where the HP that Nissan states on their website has been crossed, with or without mods

Cheers

These cars do not really need a tune up. Old school tune up use to be cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, new fluids.

Our cars don't use a cap, rotor, don't have a serviceable fuel filter, the plugs are buried and not due for a change until 105k miles I believe, there isn't an spark plug wires, there is no power steering fluid either.

So you can change your air filter . I will be doing this on Saturday and taking pics. A howto might be written. I know it's extremely simple but some people are afraid of cars and actually pay to have it done. I don't want anyone wasting money on it. I will also list part numbers for OEM and aftermarket filters.

current mileage 155,000
last tank 35 mpg -personal best 44.04 mpg and no I don't hypermile

that would be nice, and if you can tell us how we know that the air filter needs to be changed would be nice and i was just talking in terms of tuning the ECU to get better performance and/or to increase HP, which i am not sure can happen or not

Look into UpRev. I think some have had their ECU's reflashed by them with decent results. I am yet to see an aggressive tune from them though.

i have heard about them, but again its not a huge difference so i was thinking maybe some has achieved a great result

i will probably wait awhile to get the ECU reflashed, simply because i would rather make it better then just reflash for 300 bucks u know

If you guys are really serious about power find someone to do a turbo setup for you. That may be more then anyone would want to take on so my suggestion is the usual intake, header, exhaust, then tune. Upgraded cams would be nice but not sure anything is out there or swappable from another engine.

I suggest you get a custom header made and pay good money for it. There are people out there that will make them where they actually make good power. Much more then anything you can get on ebay. I also suggest you go custom on exhaust so you can choose good size piping which I would think no more the 2.5". Get a nice straight through muffler, have no cats and then get a quality intake and filter. Even a nice flow stack on stock piping with an SB filter would be good. Not sure how the 1.8 intake is set up so that might not be possible. After that get it on the dyno for a tune. Tune it for 91+ octane and advance the timing a little.

If people have dynoed about 115hp stock then I would think everything I said above would get you in the 140's to the wheel.
