Coolant Level

I did an oil change yesterday and noticed that my coolant level was near the minimum line. I've had the car for a year now and have never filled it up (Never noticed it was low). Is my coolant leaking? How is it near minimum

Using the A/C and the defroster uses the A/C, which as u know leaks anifreeze. So thats being used yr round. That could be it. But check ur hose's for leaks. Run the A/C, and look into the hood for leaks. I might be talking out my butt, cause I really dont know much about an engine, but it came to mind, so I hope it helps.

Funny that you should post this because when I cleaned my engine bay last week I pointed out to my brother that the coolant level was low. It is near the minimum line but not quite there. My car though is two years old.

Do we just buy coolant at Canadian Tire? What kind do I need to buy?

Did you check your engine hot or cold? When the engine is cold, the coolant hasnt been through the engine thus there isnt any pressure affecting the level, minimum level. When its hot, the heat expands and adds pressure the coolant, high level. If its below minimum when its cold, its best to add 50/50 mix of coolant/DISTILLED WATER, or else the minerals in regular tap water will build up in the system and affect the cooling efficiency.

The A/C does not use the same fluids as the engine cooling system. Thanks for the laugh though

The owners manual should tell you which coolant to use. There are those "all makes and models" coolants which are effective, but just double check that it has the same specs that the engine needs for cooling.

I checked the anti-freeze level and it's a couple inches above the minimum fill line, should fill it up to the max myself.

So funny this thread popped up, the other day I noticed mine was looking low when I was washing my engine. Come back in and there's a thread just started on it. After sitting back and reading everyones posts and looking at my own car, I think it's supposed to be or at least ok if it's that low.

Going in for an oil change to the dealer on Thursday, will ask them to check the level.

Give a man fire, he'll be warm for a night. Light a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

An apple a day, thrown hard enough, will keep anyone away.

I talked to someone about this. And they told me that the coolant level is fine at the 'minimum level'. As long as that is where it's at, they said it's safe and fine to drive it like that as it will compress up/down so you don't want to fill it.
