BluV3R18 I listened to both your new videos ... It sounds kind of loud to me. I am pretty sure mine is much quieter. I however don't have nearly as many miles though. I should try and record mine one day to compare.

All for the SAME issue, and ALL piston #3.

Lol, I guess when my name comes up, most are afraid to comment?! lol j/k Dont see the point but if you guys want to....On a side note, I will keep this thread updated as I continue to dig for further clarity and answers.

With the input from all on this thread, I've got an appointment in the next few weeks to have a new 1/2 block installed under warranty on my 1.8L that has 12000 miles Thanks for the guidance. I'll report back once it is installed.

You should, just to hear what she sounds like

mine does have a tick sound when is cold, but now that I'm at 100,000miles it is way too late to do anything.

on a similar issue, I had a late 90s Chevy Cavalier. they came with two engines, a 2.2L and a 2.4 engine. The 2.2L had a headgasket problem, and the 2.4L had a water pump problem. to get to the waterpump you had to remove the timing chain taking up to 8hrs on labor to replace. The factory warranty back then was 3 years or 36,000 miles
my 2.4L was overheating and the dealer said, its not overheating and I had extended warranty. The Transmisson was replaced at 80,000 and the engine started getting weaker and weaker and more overheating, did a compression test and all cyclinders were reading about 120PSI and I finally sold the car at 175,000

Back to the Versa, I did not buy extended warranty on my Versa because I was having high expectations on NISSAN but I would like to recommend to everyone to buy extended warranty. a lot can go wrong between 60,000 miles and 100,000 miles.

I do want to perform a compression test on my 1.8L but I'm really sure what PSI each cylinder is suppost to read

maybe low compression on cylinder number 3 is the root of the problem
Page EM186 indicates 217.6 psi standard and 174 psi min

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM//versa/2011/EM.pdf

Also the Differential limit between cylinders is 15 psi

You make some valid points and data from reliable sources. Nissan just replaced my 1/2 block this week under warranty. It took a few times bring in the vehicle for the same issue and "working" with the dealership to help solve the problematic tapping. I do have to say that the tapping never went away after warming up for 20 miles. The noise was always there even after a 100 mile drive. So I believe there was a real problem with the stack up Clearances, between the Aluminum alloy piston and steel cylinder wall. Or, the block bore concentricity. Time will tell if the noise comes back.

Yikes, this thread kinda scared me. I just bought my Versa Thursday, and she sounds like a sewing machine. I read and read all over the internets that Nissans have a tendency to sound like that. She runs smooth as silk otherwise. I'm certainly going to get everything checked while I'm still under warranty and I have the service plan that went along with my purchase. *crosses fingers*

Thanks, I am only trying to help others out. So far my wife's car is ok, however in the back of my mind I still fear the worse. I listen for every little noise now. Shouldnt have to be this way, but seems like it is. Recently on one of my other forums, a member with a brand new 2011 Maxima had a VERY similar issue in which their short block was replaced under warranty. I dunno anymore about Nissan. I have owned them since my 1st Maxima back in 1990. Sure hope we arent about to see Nissan pull a "Toyota" out of their hat.

You have been very helpful by laying out the facts and your experience. Our forum has a view of a tiny slice or snapshot of the bigger pitcher of this potential quality issue. In my mind, Nissan does know they have a problem as my warranty was coded as customer satisfaction. My experience has come from owning Camry’s since 1987. The 1995-1997 Camry’s were engineering super stars. One of the reasons you still see them on the road today. I’m also living through the Corolla 2009 mat/accelerator/freezing pcv “ six sigma <grin> Toyota quality.
Like you “I listen for every little noise now”

I'm getting the noise too. I've taken it to TWO Nissan dealerships and one actually argued with me and the other simply repeated "I don't hear anything".. over, and over, and over... I'm stuck and I've just hit 40K miles. HELP!!
