How is the acceleration from 50-70 with the cvt?

I had a honda with a cvt and it felt like I always had a vacuum leak. From 0-30 it was pretty quick, but it was a real dog the rest of the way to 60 or even 70.

I find the set acceleration time more important than from a dead stop when merging from one interstate to another or park way to another or even route.

I had a 2015 basic rogue for a rental and from a dead stop it was a dog and felt like it hasa serious vacuum leak. From 50-70 it hauled ass. >:D

As another 5 speed owner I don't have any real-world information to share, but the threads on this forum are sometimes a little quiet so just to help spark conversation let me throw this out;

One of my favorite websites is automobile-catalog.com. Their site is kinda hard to navigate BUT it has gobs of great info about tons of cars. Very detailed info. No idea how accurate it all is but its something to go on when you've got nothing.

So I'm comparing a couple pages of that site dealing with the 5 MT and the CVT:
5 MT Specs and Details
CVT Specs and Details

With the CVT they are showing 8.1 seconds to accelerate 40-70 MPH, and 16.4 seconds to accelerate 50-90 MPH.
In comparison, for the 5 MT its 7.7 seconds to accelerate 40-70 MPH, and 16.2 seconds to accelerate 50-90 MPH (according to the same site).
They list 0-60 MPH for the CVT as 9.9 seconds vs 9.7 for the 5 MT.
They also list the theoretical top speed of the CVT as 119 MPH vs only 116 MPH for the 5 MT.
These numbers they base on some kind of simulation, or at least thats what the website says somewhere on there.

I'm not sure these numbers would hold up 100% in real world application but I may get a chance to test it out someday, maybe when its not winter and icy on the roads. My friend has a 2014 CVT so if we ever get the chance to put them head to head it would be interesting. Cars this closely matched though the biggest factor will probably come down to whether my tires are in better shape than theirs. Off the line it seems to me there is no way a CVT can beat a well executed launch from a manual transmission.

Thx. I dont know about most people, but I didnt get a chance to really research my purchase. Basically my hybrid crapped out and I was trying to make due with my moms mini van. Getting 17 mpg was starting to add up in the hundreds in fuel a month. Id rather put that into a car and only spend a fraction of that on fuel.

I had a few cars in mind and the sales person tried to get me into the Sentra. Another dealer was pushing used Altimas. Then a thrird used Leafs as they were going stickered for 12 grand. Searching that price point I came across the Fiesta and the Versa. Surprisingly the sedan was cheaper than the hatch back.

I did test drive the sedan twice and did just that 50-80 acceleration. I weaved in and out of traffic for afew miles on the test drive. Seemed pretty peppy in relation to the hybrid.

Off the line it seems to me there is no way a CVT can beat a well executed launch from a manual transmission.
