Question 2011/12 navigation unit into 2008 model

I have a 2008 techno package with the Rockford Fosgate audio system. I have steering wheel controls. It is on a 2008 SL Versa.

Can I buy the current nagivation unit form Nissan and have it installed? This would add GPS and a nice interface to my existing 7-speaker setup. Just looking at it you would think that it would work. The Nissan dealers are not willing to install it but they did say that a smart person would likely be able to get it done.

Or should I go aftermarket ? My primary concernt is to make it fit nicely so it does not stick out...and to keep the use of all seven speakers and steerign wheel controls...

Any suggestions are welcome....

Thanks

I'd say go for it. It would be a nice upgrade.

I say go aftermarket, might be cheaper even with steering wheel control adapter.

I think I will go aftermarket. The Nissan dealership quoted me CAD$3950.00 ?! Kinda ridiculous...

I think Nissan does not really want people to have it....

Pshhh, yeah...go aftermarket. No way I'd pay that much for an OEM Nav. system.

The way I understand it is that you will only pay $700.00 if you order it with a new vehicle. This options is not available as a standalone purchase....or am I missunderstanding it...?!

Thanks
