GPS is way to common to not have these days but I still like using my internal gps if at all possible. If you need to get to a job I understand but the old spirit of tryin to find something on your own. Just my .02

I use Ovi maps on my Nokia N97
in middle east it's 90% accurate, pretty simple, and very portable.
It saved my A** a lot of times.

I finally figured out a reasonably low-profile mounting arrangement for a 5" Garmin in my 2011 hatch, using an Arkon GN047 vent mount. I don't like having the screen up on top of the dash. I'm able to keep the charging cable out of the way by running it over the steering column, under the center stack, and then running it back to the lighter socket along the right side of the shifter console. A hidden piece of velcro under the center stack, is enough to make it tidy-looking when it's in use...

I use a basic Garmin 205w with 2011 maps installed. It doesn't speak street names but I bought it about two years ago on sale for about $80-$90 so it's been a very good investment. Paper maps are nice but they are outdated before the ink dries on them lol.

I've seen the Garmin 1690 on Amazon for about $95 (1490 sells for about $125) looks like a decent upgrade for those of us using older models. It can be connected to Garmin's ecoRoute HD which lets you get more data from your car. Fuel consumption, coolant temp, engine load, mpg etc and it reads your check engine codes too! Nice add on for those of us that would like to see more of what's going on under the hood without spending serious $ on it.

I forgot to add, anyone that has a Garmin that's less than 30 days since it's purchase date can get a free map update on via Garmin's website. So even if you buy an older model you can load it up with the latest maps!

I got a similar vent clip too. I also dislike having the gps on the dash or front window. I find it distracting.

Now, don't laugh, but I'm one of the few people in the world that actually got a GarminAsus: Garminfone. It isn't the latest and greatest, but I like it.

I found that Google Nav to be superior to any other system I have used,And when off line maps become available this year it will be perfect,Car DVD GPS.

I've been using Google Maps on the Droid Razr lately, they're continuously updated by Google and it's free. I highly suggest using it, but it won't replace any of the major GPS brands like Garmin or TomTom. The bigger screen on the bigger GPS makes it easier to read and you can add more advanced features such as waypoints and time at arrive for your destinations if you're on vacation or a short roadtrip.
