Just 2 days ago I purchased a base model Versa S sedan with a manual gearbox. So far loving it. I have been reading multiple posts for days even before I got it to get up to speed on all the ins and outs of the Versa. There seems to be little information on the 2nd generation models. I am the kind of person that will do everything myself in the way of any upgrades or repairs.
I have a Rostra 250-9508 cruise control kit ordered already and will be installing it next week. I also plan on installing a keyless entry but I am having a more difficult time researching it, as I stated above there is not much info on the 2013-15 models. I am hoping Nissan is still installing actuators in the doors. I am also planing on putting some rear speakers in the doors and I will find out then if there are actuators or not. I have read all the threads on these 3 upgrades but most of them pertain to the earlier generation Versas.
I would appreciate any tips or information on any of these projects.
Welcome to the forum. I figure if you are the "hands on" type, you would like to have access to some reference material for your car. These should help out, courtesy of OP Sinimonecar.
Picked up the car with 10 miles on it and it now has a little over 300.
The average MPG reading is at 41.3 and has been climbing a little bit everyday. From looking at the gauge and guesstemating I would say it is reasonably accurate. I do drive easy though.
I am really enjoying the car and happy to be back to a stick again.
Got the cruise working. I'm going on vacation and I will post the details when I get back. My actual MPG on the first tank was 36.6, but I don't know how full it was when they delivered the car. I will keep monitoring.
Very nice on the cruise control. I intend to do that install myself.
I have a 2014 Nissan Versa S.
I have installed power locks, power windows, remote start/alarm/keyless entry so far. I can help you out with that. Trunk release too.
I ordered a stock steering wheel with the cruise control options I'm hoping to wire that in. I don't care if the cruise control is stock or not but I do want the controls on my steering wheel as if it were stock.
Anyway... Let me know if you have any questions on how to do anything I've done so far and I'll write up a How To for you.
I got the Rostra 250-9508. I will also do a complete write up when I am back in a few weeks. If you need any info or help until then, give me some contact info and I will get back to you. My next projects will be remote keyless locks, and then a couple of extra usb charging ports and some rear door speakers. Did your 2014 S have the actuators in the doors already from the factory? Which kit did you get?
I see that you used an actuator for trunk release instead of those special trunk solenoid kits. How did you hook it up? So far I only got a power lock kit from the links you posted in another thread in response to my question (thanks, by the way!) and plan on installing it soon. I looked under the trim and mounting the actuators looks relatively simple, but I am not looking forward to the wiring... I'd appreciate any helpful tips you have.
I haven't really considered cruise control until I stumbled upon this thread. Now I'm genuinely intrigued! This begs the question, what are other things you guys plan on modifying/adding to your Versas?
I'm new to this forum and I just purchased a 2015 Versa S plus. I of course have manual windows and locks. Like others I'd like to try to DIY an upgrade to power locks. I'm hoping some of those that were on this thread a few months ago might still be around to offer some suggestions. From earlier threads it appears Versa models used to have installed power lock actuators even on the basic models - but from what I read on this thread this is no longer true (from 2014 on?). With that in mind I'd like to to try to install power locks using aftermarket actuators but it would be great to see a picture or two of work that has been done by others. If it is too late for pictures at least a description of where to mount the actuators in the door panel would be helpful. Hey any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated especially from lizardversa since he has done the upgrade.
Thank you for your posts regarding the Rostra 250-9508 kit, could you tell us how the install went and if you found and "gotchas" while doing it? Did you take any photos? How did you identify the clutch wire? Where did you purchase your kit? Any information you would like to share would be appreciated! Thanks!
I got it from kartronix on ebay for 277.50.
I regret not taking pictures when I installed it but I was in a hurry because I was leaving for vacation and I really wanted a working cruise control.
When I got back I was really busy at work and did not have time to do a write up.
Two images that may be helpful are posted below. One is the picture of the clutch wire showing where the white wire attaches and the other is the location of the switch. For the switch, I had to remove the dash panel and then remove the plastic cover plate from the inside. I then made a plastic plate from an old 5 1/4 computer face plate blank that I cut to size to mount the switch to.
I have not done the power lock upgrade yet. I was also hoping that actuators were in the doors already but from my research it looks like that is not the case.
What I would really like to know is if a locking door handle for the passenger side can be fitted and keyed the same as the drivers.
From the outside they look identical. Could one just buy a drivers side and mount it on the passenger side?
I wouldn't be surprised if you can. Our cars come made from very standard parts (especially the body), our back doors have places for speakers even though the radio doesn't even have 4 output channels. It's a shame they no longer come with pre-installed actuators, but I've seen people install OEM power windows in the same doors that had a manual crank.
I'm interested in some sort of automatic trunk release, preferably with some sort of remote control. My wife would like for our daughter to be able to but her viola and book bag in the trunk when she gets in the car at school. It is impossible to get out of the car and open the trunk in the pick up line.
Suggestions? I don't really care about the other doors.
Hey guys I did a write up on how to install power locks on the Nissan Versa S.
When it gets warm I'll do a write up on the power windows. There doesn't seem to be much interest in the remote start, but I have that working and plan on doing some cool things this year. This weekend I finally hooked up the rear defroster so it comes on when I start the car.
This year I plan on doing push to start. I'm currently working on a setup to allow me to control my car (remote start and locks) from my cell phone. Heated seats.
Did you do a write up on the power windows? I found your how-to on the power locks. I bought a power window kit and would like to know how you connected the power window motor and switch wiring to the car wiring. For instance, did you connect the wiring to the fuse box, to some other wiring in the car, etc.?
Hi guys,
I just bought my 2015 Versa S two days ago for really cheap and it has a 6 year warranty on it. If I wanted to do the installations similar to what Lizardversa did, would it void my warranty? or cause any problems similar to that? I really want to put at least power locks into it and maybe see if i can get a center console and a spoiler. Thanks guys!
I've been driving my 15' Versa S for about a month now. I guess I got lucky in that the dealership must have installed the truck latch for me? I just thought it was standard on the S, but apparently not. I still have to use the key from the outside but I have a latch on the floorboard too.
If I had to rank other options, cruise control would be nice with my 35 mile commute (33 on the highway), and then maybe power locks, but mostly cruise control. I'm betting it would void the factory warranty. Also, the spoiler would look pretty nice too.
Installing power windows/locks and/or cruise control should not affect the warranty. If I understand correctly, the manufacturer has to prove that the modifications were the cause of the defect.
It looks light green. It is the wire in the bottom part of the plug. Both wires look green and I can't pull the cable cover back far enough to get a good look. But the plug only fits one way, so use the bottom.

So you did the cruise install yourself? How long did it take? Any problems?
