The valve cover above the bracket is where the leak usually is, the bracket is glued down to the head and rarely leaks, there is no gasket.
One look there should tell you the bracket MUST come off before the cams can move, they will pop up out of place when the valve springs push them up as the bracket is removed. The service manual says the cam sprockets have to come off first before the bracket and meaning the front cover and all timing chain comes apart. In a world of hurt there and why you guarantee the valve cover is not the leak before you go that deep.
