htgrimmi: 2014 Versa S

After two years of boring driving, I'm going to have some fun with my commuter car.

At this point it's lowered and the rims & tires are on. It's been raining here so I haven't been able to get a photo of the car. I'll upload that later when it clears.

The next autocross event, would be my first, is on 4/1.

Here's a link to the FB album of the build up. I'll also start posting some photos directly to this thread as well.

Good luck with the Autocross, I've been Autocrossing my Versa for over three years now along with a year on the track. Take it easy and don't expect to win anything at first. Just observe and learn from others. Autocross is a totally different style of driving.

What's your current wheel and tire setup?

Just checked your album and remembered we spoke before. The wheel and tire setup looks like your off to a good start. Chalk your sidewalls to get a feel of what tire pressure you need to run at.

Thanks Kat_Hat!

Yes they are 215/45-17's and I found the cheapest wheels possible to put them on. Only issue now is that they arrived out of balance and one is slightly out of round. Dealing with CarID on this.

Hoping to make the 4/2 event down here as they have a beginners training class first thing in the am that day. After that it is test/tune and it looks like Sunday is their racing day.

Either way I'm going to take it easy and see if I can get the hang of it before going for speed. Should be some good fun seeing if I can improve my times.

OMG that was insane, I'm hooked!

Did my first autocross event this weekend. Just went one day for the training class and some track time. Will get to competing later.

It was really cool, they had a slightly smaller but more technical track for the novice training. We ran with instructors for the first 5 or so laps. Then they drove us in our cars to show us what the car can do. I couldn't believe how much he got out of the Versa.

At noon we got to go over to the regular track. Each 1/2 hour session we worked the track, we got tokens to run. Seems to do this with everyone to insure they have cone picker uppers... Fair by me!

Here's a couple of photos, I recorded my runs on the phone and will post them on YouTube as soon as I can.

My tires were pretty good, no roll over/tread damage on the fronts. I ran them at 38. I had the backs at 38 as well but they look like they could go down to 36 or so. I had about a half centimeter more I could have put on the road.

Congrats on getting your first event under your belt! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. 38 psi is about what I've ran all my tires at for Autocross so you got that dialed in pretty good. Were you getting a lot of under steer? What was the instructors feedback on the cars handling?

Thanks, he said the car felt pretty good. No major under steer either so I think the tires are close.

Would love to see some photos and videos of yours, have any links?

Also, I added some more horsepower, I mean stickers, the past two days. Click on the link up top to the FB album. Think it's at least 20 more hp..
