How is this possible?

I just clayed and waxed my 2009 Nissan Versa Hatchback. I was looking at the roof when I noticed a brown spot that looked like rust. Well I started going over it with the clay and cleaner and it didn't come off. So it is a rust spot but how is that possible with this new of a car? It's looks like a paint chip where rust has started. So now what do I do? I don't want to mess up my car fixing it and I really don't want to go to a bodyshop. Would it just be surface rust as I thought newer cars weren't supposed to rust?

Beemer/Frenchy: Can one of you post a photo of the paint/rust area? I wonder if it is oxidation of the metal under the paint? More of an alloy issue rather than moisture.

The V's unfortunately have very thin paint, been dealing with that on my 11' V.

Yeah I can try too. As corrison resistant metal isn't supposed to rust lol.

I had a rust spot on my gas door. Nissan said it was "normal wear and tear."

Ya my lower front bumper is all mangled from the highway. Paint sucks but other than that no rust on her. Also had the under carriage checked and all is good

Yeah I have this too, mostly on my doors. Its harder to see on the red ones, but its probably there too. I am guessing that after market wheels, since they are almost always a little wider don't help, and throw up more grit and such. And combined with the already very thin paint on the car, its just a recipe for rust Still not sure what I am gonna do to fix mine, but I probably have 6-8 little spots like that on each side of my car.

Maybe some touch up paint? Just to get rid of the nasty rust spots at least...
