Unhappy Help! Glove compartment got stuck!

I tried lightly prying the compartment but to no avail.. what should I do? Should I just let the dealer do the repair or can I do it myself?

Thanks!

Some pics:
1st pic is the glove compartment handle that I accidentally pulled out of frustration
2nd & 3rd pic is the lock plate (?)

Try gently using a regular table knife to pry the mechanism unlocked through the crack at top of door. I've never tried this, just a suggestion, be careful
I think bigdaddychia may have a little insight...if he doesn't mind

Thanks for the suggestion

UPDATE:

I finally had it opened! Here's what I did:

1. I removed the glove box handle by yanking it up and down
2. Pushed/pressed down the plastic spring mechanism using a flat screw driver, and voila!

I unscrewed the latch and took some pictures and a video to show you guys how it works.

Top: latch
Bottom: glove box handle

The culprit.. a shattered plastic tube
