It is funny, Nissan states after recommending engine oil 5w-30 for 2017 and 0w-20 for 2018:

"As an alternative to this recommended oil, SAE 10W-30 conventional petroleum based oil may be used and meet all specifications and requirements necessary to maintain the New Vehicle Limited Warranty"

It means for me that both 5w-30 and 0w-20 can be used interchangeably.

I sent an e-mail to Nissan USA asking why the recommended oil viscosity changed to 0W-20 for the 2018 model year and if 0W-20 is ok for my 2014 Versa Note. They didn't answer the 1st question. For the 2nd question, they just said to follow my owner's manual or to go to a dealer.

Who knows? Maybe Nissan is trying to squeeze an extra 1 MPG from the 2018 Versa by switching to 0W-20. The Versa sedan/Note EPA mileage figures went down from 35 MPG combined to 34 MPG combined due to the new EPA fuel economy rating system implemented in 2017, I believe.
