Hesitation

Haven't wrote on here for a while since I haven't had trouble with the car. Until recently car started having small hesitations when driving. One day at a stop car shut off on me so turned it back on. It feels like a slight misfire but there's no check engine light on. Just a little while ago car hesitated at 65mph like it wanted to shut off that's when the check engine light came on and blinked 3-5 times and the light turns off. Haven't done spark plug change yet as the car has reached 109xxx miles. Should have done that 4k miles ago I know. The car is a 2012 versa hatchback 1.8 non cvt trans. Question is will a misfire cause check engine light to turn on obviously it will I know but if that's the case why hasn't it turned on. What other things can cause this I'm currently looking into possible vacuum leaks. Will these also cause what the car is going thru and would the check engine come on cause of these leaks? Was already thinking of trading in but the car already made it this far i think I can make it go further if I fix it. Let me know what you guys think of the situation. I explained the best I could with the problem sorry if it's confusing. Like I said before there's no check engine light at all not even when driving until today when it blinked around 3-5 times then it turned back off.

When the check engine light blinks you are generating misfires. This is universal to all cars. Some go into a limp mode and limit you to 20 mph to save the CAT.

Good idea to replace your spark plugs.

Yes I know but I've had some were the check engine light is on. This one just blinked when driving and then turned off. But plugs are on the to do list as of right now. Thank you

Yes, blinking check engine light = misfire.

Changed out the plugs n man the car is still running rough even rougher than before check engine light finally stayed on took it to get checked comes back as cylinder2 misfire. Could that be the coils or fuel injector? Already ordered the coils just to be safe.

If you move the coil to another cylinder does the misfire move too?

Coils in my experience start acting up when they start to deliminate or come apart.

If the coil is the culprit I would go ahead and replace them all. Especially if they are different brands. Years ago we had a customer complain about the cost of replacing his coils so he flat out refused to replace all 4. We replaced the bad one and the vehicle would not run right no matter what we did until we went ahead and replaced all of them of the same brand. Then it finally ran well.

What plugs are you using? Did you gap them? Hondas are notorious for running like crap with anything other than Denso or NGK plugs and wires and I would assume that Nissan would have a similar issue.

When my 1.6 2012 Versa had less than 10k miles on it, the CEL came on (Stayed solid) and it ended up being a misfire in the 3rd cylinder. The dealership couldn't replicate it and ive never had an issue since. With that being said, if your CEL begins to blink vs staying solid, you need to shut the car down immediately as it is signifying that there is a major issue.

Replaced with oem plugs which would be the denso. The coils are stock. Didn't really gap them but I will take them back out and do that.

Yeah you need to make sure the gap is within the OEM specs. Be sure to use a wire spark plug gauge and not one of those cheap chrome $1 solid gapping tools.
