Question changed oil....now it says it overfilled

so we changed the oil and filter and manual says 3.5 qts….so we are done and the oil dip stick says it's over filled...is this ok...has anyone else noticed this...is this common....just leave it or drain the over fill....weird..thanks for any info

Depends on how much it is above the fill mark. Too much oil can be a problem so you want to make sure that you try and stay close to the mark. I would take the car for a short spin, park it on a leverl surface, let it drain down for 10-15 minutes and check it again. If it is still showing too much over the full mark I would then drain out a little to adjust the oil level.

Up to 1/8" over full mark is fine; drain anything past that. If the crank counterweights strike the oil then vast amounts of air whips up into the oil, aerated oil can fail engine bearings.

If '07-'11 MR18DE engine, then they came with either one of two oil pans on them and dipsticks to match the different oil levels, owner manuals did not reflect that in all cases.
