Good Evening Everyone,
First time here on the Versa Forums. Been reading a searching threads for the last few hours and have found lots of good information, but Per my issue, most of the resolved problems were on the older model Versas. Sooo, from the beginning
To start I am mechanic by trade, (ironic I know) specially in Subaruís, but will work on anything.
So yesterday my GF calls me as sheís getting off the Hwy, and said her 2015 Versa 5speed, was stalling/hesitating as She got off the ramp. Car ended up stalling, but she quickly got help off the fwy and to a safe spot. I headed that way with the tool bag to see what we could do to get her back on the road quickly. Was thinking vacuum line, air filter housing popped off, something simple. Got there, inspected everything under the hood. Everything looked fine and dandy. I have her start the car. 2-3 second crank then it started, engine is running very rough, but no knocking, no mechanical sounds (thank God)..I then take the back seat out, and put my ear to the fuel pump location to hear what that bad boy is doing. Have her turn the ignition to ďONĒ not the car on. And canít really hear anything. No hum, no buzz, nothing...hmmmm thatís weird. Subies are always loud upon priming. Disconnect the NeG from the batt Then take the main fuel line off the top of the assembly and whaamoo, lots of pressure. So Iím thinking at that point, pump is good. Just quiet. Attach the hose back, make sure everything is clipped in.
I leave the NEG off for a few minutes, cycle thru the ignition a few times and press on the brake pedal for a 15-20 seconds. (Quick .edu reset
) connect the battery and have the GF prime pump 3x to build pressure back and start her up....nothing. Have her try again...nada. I go try a 3rd time when finally she starts back up. Idles a bit rough off the bat but then the engine smoothed out real nice. I let it idle for a minute or 2, drive around the parking lot and the car honestly felt pretty good. No check engine.
I have her take my Honda, and I cruise off In the wind with the hot Versa, thinking it may have just been a glitch or bad gas or something (not really sure) drove it around the rest of the day in a few errands, trying to get a cel to pop up. (at least give me something to work with) but nothing. The car pretty good the rest of the day I drove. With a slight hesitation on acceleration, felt more like a failing 02 or bad cat, but I was also thinking bad MAF, or still a weak FPump or failing FPr. fast forward to this morning. Lol. I go to start this morning, took about 3 seconds again, engine idled a bit funky to start then evens out. Drive down the road, car is really falling on its face at this point, cel pops up. ďP0171Ē system to Lean bank 1...hmm. I get the car back home, try a few more things in the engine bay, but didnít really make much progress. This evening I go back out to do some more trouble shooting. Go to start the car, nothing. No start after 4-5 long attempts, Iím back at the Fuel pump assembly. Popped the main line off, hardly anything comes out, or very little. At this point not Iím really curious about this pump. I was able to get the car started and running a few times. While the car was running and the few times it started I could hear the pump prime and hear it also run while the car was on. Noticeably could deff hear it, the other 80% of the time that the car wouldnít start. There was no priming sound and no gas pressure when taking the line off.
Iím lead to believe itís a faulty pump or failed Fuel pressure Reg. I have no problem replacing the pump/assembly that not the prob. The prob is I CANNOT for the life of me locate the FPR on this bizznatch, Iíve thoroughly scanned the whole FSM for 2013 Versa (closest I could find to 15) and only one time it mentions a (In-tank Fuel pressure regulator) but doesnít expound any further, no picture or description anywhere else of where this is actually located. Iíve noticed the older models the FPr is right there in the plastic fuel assembly, super easy to replace and from the vids and threads Iíve read has fixed the problem in most cases. Now with the Ď15 Versa, when I search the FPR itís deff not the same as the older style and visually looks like it mounts someone in the engine bay along side the fuel system some where,
Sorry for the long winded thread guysí Just trying to fill everyone in a not leave anything out. Open to all suggestions, Iím thinking.
relay or something wacky going on in the ipdm
P.S. Iíve not done pinouts yet to the actual connections, thatís next. Checking cont, and voltage for spec range. Lmk what yíall fellerz are thinkin
