fuel pump questions

the fuel pump went out and i changed it out with a new one. got the new one in and the pump wouldn't pump. so i checked online and found the fuse under the hood. it was blown of course. so i put a new one in it. running like a top. yay! but would the old pump going out make the fuse blow for it or did i just spend 270 for no reason?

Not so fast... maybe the fuse was blown because of a shorted pump?

One way to find out is to hook up the old one to see if it still runs.

Hasn't anyone told you to start with the simple things first and not the actual component? You probably did waste the money. Not a big deal to rip the new one out and put the old one back in if you didn't wreck anything or bend the float while taking it out. I'm assuming you threw away your parts invoice for it though... yeah you could sell it but won't get half of what you paid for because on the street it's not worth anything until someone needs it and can't find one anywhere else. Plus when you do sell it for cheap to someone, i guarantee you a week later another Versa guy will be looking for one because his just died and he needs his car ASAP, or yours! That's how it works. However if you haven't had the FPR TSB addressed, you might as well keep it in there. Or if you can return it swap FPR's and give the parts place the original one!

Always check the wiring on the tank over for copper corrosion too WYIT, that could have blown the fuse, or there was exposed insulation and it grounded out on the metal frame of the sender.
