Is it safe to change transmission fluid if...

it has never been changed and the car is a 2010 and has 161,000+ miles? Transmission fluid level has been checked regularly but never changed...actually I've never even had to add to it.

Too late now to make a difference and could even hurt it. Any damage is already done and most ask this question when the trans begins to act up. Why changing it then makes it seem to fail.

If wear has added lots of metal particles into the oil that act to lock up clutches on worn disks then new fluid can fail the trans too when it removes those wear particles, they add friction to otherwise dead parts.

Yours and do as you will...........
