2012 Versa Manual Transmission won’t stay cranked

My Versa will crank up but won’t hold any rpms. It just slowly dies out. What would cause that to happen? I had issues changing my air filter but figured that out and still can’t hold any power.

Knowing the mileage of the car might help with trying to figure out what is wrong. Did the problem start after you changed out the air filter?? Possibly clogged fuel filter, failing fuel pump? The fact that it starts and then slowly dies out would lead more to a fuel issue problem that is causing the issue. Any codes being shown?? If you do not have a scanner, most auto supply stores will be happy to scan your car for free to see if there are any codes that can help pin point the problem. Good luck!!!

Sorry about that. I’m a little over 130,000. I did just change the air filter and then it started doing that. I haven’t gotten a check engine light or anything. I was kind of thinking it was fuel related too but I have zero experience with that.

I would zero in on the air filter change. Something was unplugged or disconnected during that replacement. A good place to start is to check vacuum hoses around that area.

Joseph, can you explain a little more what the problem is? So with the car running in the park position, are you saying the rps's get lower and lower until the car stalls?

Two things....
1) as mention above, redo your work just to double check you didn't do anything like.... leave a rag in the air intake... it happens to the best of us.
2) if you have access to a scan tool that will give you your fuel trims, it might help figuring out if it's a fuel or air issue.

Sounds like you have a leak in the intake system, my airbox/filter assembly partially detached due to a broken rear motor/torque mount. It would not hold idle at the light and died. Although mine was also more obvious as to what it was because I noticed the intake growl was much more noticable in the drivers seat (stock intake). Good luck and let us know. :smile
