2012 Versa Hatchback Gas Tank

Hi all,

I just recently bought a 2012 Versa Hatchback in Canada. From the getgo when I went to fill the gas tank (which was on empty and with the light on) I could only put 42 litrs in to the tank. I approached Nissan Canada indicated this to them and they have come back saying "you may have a 50 litr tank however, you will only be able to use 42 litrs"

My question to the community is .... has anyone else experienced this with their vehicle where they are on empty can only put 42 litrs in to their tank? (not sure what that would be in gallons) or can you put the full amount of gas in to the tank?

Thanks,
Russell

I too have a 2012 nissan hatchback. When my low fuel light has come on and I go to fill it full I am able to fill it to 11 gallons (or more, but not much more). I googled liters to gallons and I too am unable to fill up to the 50 liters (13.2 gallons). I think the reason why is because in the owners manual it mentions that there is a small reserve of gas remaining when the light comes on, enough to let you get to the nearest gas station to fill up. So, it looks like it leaves roughly 1-2 gallons of gas to get you buy. Hope that helps.

I reckon you could probably fill her up with 50 liters if you ran your car completely dry.
I hope you know that when the "empty" light is on, this does not indicate that your car is completely empty.

Yes that is the case if you run with the gas light on you have about 1.5 gallons of fuel in reserve. If you are brave to run with the light on you can go between 30 and 60 miles before running the reserve out. when you refill when completely out of fuel it will fill to 13 gallons, the .2 gallons left is for enough room to be left for air.

Sweet, I am smart, and knew what I was talking about, LOL!

Side note.... Never good to let your car run dry. Been there done that on an older car (1983 mercury). Huge engine problems after that.

*Peace*

The farthest I've ever run was 430 miles and use 12.8 gallons 33mpg. it was really nerve racking to run 60 miles on the reserve tank, I will not do it again but I was not completely out.
