Wow, we 1.6ers get much better gas mileage than our 1.8L bretheren! Some of this is from the fact that the 1.6 has better epa estimates, but most of it is probably due to the fact that people who like to go fast bought 1.8s, and hypermilers like me chose the 1.6.

New 2012 4spd Auto Hatchback bad mileage

I have a brand new 2012 Special Edition hatchback with the 1.8L engine & 4spd auto transmission. I do 99% city driving and am getting only 18-20 mpg. I only have like 200 miles on it and am on my 2nd tank of gas, hopefully the mileage improves. I don't know if it makes any difference that I am in Los Angeles and drive in constant stop & go traffic. Even so, I expected to get at least 24 mpg. Am I asking too much?

Your fuel economy will definitely improve after the engine is broken in.
I don't know how much and how soon that will be, but it will get better.
Stop and go traffic is just the worst hang in there!

I've gotten gas once since I purchased my 2013 SV sedan 1.6L with CVT, still under the 1200 mile break in period. I've gotten a estimated 38 mpg. This is in town driving light throttle but long stretches between lights the fastest I will ever go is 45 mph.

If I remember correctly I read somewhere that compared to the 2012 sedan the 2013 sedan gets better mileage because Nissan revised the CVT for wider gear ratios along with the new deck lid spoiler and revised underbody ducting.

Auxilliary gearing by means of planetary gears. Not new technology, but with Altima, Sentra and Versa, it's the first time I've seen CVT and planetary gears together.
Definitely helps the mpgs
