You joke but I've seen it happen..
Snapped axles, blown motors, pieces ripped off, totaled with airbags deployed on some major upper 5 figure cars.
The guys who are serious may break something but they come on a trailer and are prepared for the expense. It's always the guy with the big new shiny toy with no skills who goes out with a lead food then realizes he has to turn and blows it. Or thinks he can floor it with his RWD in a turn, spins and crashes into something off the course.
What's worse is when a moron goes out there, spins and crashes through the timing equipment. Which should never happen as it's way far away from the finish cones.
It's one reason why I bought the Versa, cheap car. My daughter will probably get it next year and I'll pick up something I don't care about, like a used 90's V6 mini-truck and run it for fun. The Miata and Subaru classes are way too intense and competitive. I'm just out there for cone therapy.
