2014 Versa Note ghostly exhaust leak

ok so the other week i get a cel and it said to check the active shutter and at the same time i smelled exhaust coming through the vents. i could also hear an exhaust leak when i accelerated. took it a nissan dealer and they tell me there is no leak. two days later the sound is getting loader. an one else have this issue on versa notes? i had read somewhere where others were having the same problem, i believe the leak is either manifold gasket or just below with the first bearing seal. problem is i cant get to it to see what the issue is(probably why techs at nissan said they didn't see one because they didn't look)

If it sits outside overnight it should be easy on a cool morning to look for any exhaust leak, it will be puffing visible condensation/smoke out the tailpipe and out of any cracks or bad seals.

I know one guy who checked for leaks by switching his shop vac from vacuum mode to leaf blower mode then taped the blower to the tailpipe with enough tape and rags to seal it up pretty good. Then fired up the blower and went along the exhaust pipe checking for leaks.

If you can smell exhaust fumes that is a very dangerous condition, you can get VERY ill from breathing those fumes! If you must drive the car try to do so with a window down or at least cracked until issue is found and fixed.

I guarantee a generic muffler shop will find the leak.

If you can safely do this, with the car running in park, brakes set use like the side of your wallet and place it over the tale pipe while the car is running. If its leaking it should still idle and the leak will show itself. If there is no leak and you put your weight into it you can cause enough backpressure for the engine to die.

If you can block the exhaust and it still idles get a second person to listen under the hood.

Like said, take a shop towel and stuff in the tailpipe exit to block it and then any leak becomes easier to find..................may be a two person thing there.
