Gas Mileage ...Short Story

16 Note SV w/CVT

So I've lived in the country for years. When I start the car it's going to go at least 10 miles at 45 to 55 mph before I get anywhere. About a month ago I moved into the city. Lot of one to two mile trips in stop and go traffic.

For 2 years I have gotten 39 to 41 miles per gallon. For the past month it has gone to 34 mpg.

I understand the theory of this but I was not expecting that big of a difference.

Anyone had the same thing happen to them?

Sounds about normal to me. I don't know what city you live in, but in the winter time, the engine is faced with cold oil, takes time to get up to operating temperature, and short trips just multiply the fuel usage. Also, if you live in a winter zone, make sure you adjust your tire pressure when the temperature gets cold. The other issue is the "stop and go" type driving..........uses up more fuel than over the road.

Normal, it's the stops and idling that kills you and then the having to accelerate away from every stop.
