Removing and painting auto gear shift lever

How to remove the auto shift knob and paint it. I don't actually show the painting process, just the general process.

I would have never guessed that's how you removed it lol.. thanks so much for this! I really appreciate it :)

Much easier than removing the manual shift knob.

I embedded your video on the thread so it doesn't load another window.

Thanks! I tried doing it myself, and it usually works fine, but it wasn't working this time so I said screw it. I hope this helps everyone out!

And yes, it is RIDICULOUSLY easy. I swear I saw a how-to on this forum about it, but I couldn't find it, so I posted this one. Video is probably easier to understand than written directions anyways.

Did you do this. While your car was on. Or off? Like. Did u shift it into neutral while it was on or off? Sorry for the excessive periods, my keyboards jacked

I was able to remove the piece while the car was in drive, and off. While the car is in neutral, you cant shut the car off. If your just swapping it out, its probably easiest to just remove it in neutral with the car is off, but if your in drive, take your time and do it in park with the car off, cause you can't leave it running for several hours while you paint it. I hasn't thought of this until now.

athikerguy4life 04-02-2012 05:39 PM

It is easy, just gotta be careful removing it so you don'h hit it against anything.
