Stripping and recovering a steering wheel, anyone done it?

Anyone taken a stock steering wheel, and stripped all the foam and crap off it and get it wrapped in leather and stitched? The stock cheap material is starting to come off mine. It seems like the stock wheel has quite a layer of padding/foam on the wheel, and stripping it back would also make for a slimmer lower profile wheel.

Never saw anyone strip the wheel but I have seen people recover them with leather. Personally I would just upgrade to a different wheel that fits. I am really fond of the new sentra/note wheel myself.

I used to own a 92 NX2000. I wrapped the steering wheel in that car with a stitched leather wrap from wheel skins. A very worth while mod!
I found a picture of it. It only cost me $60. Takes FOREVER to stitch that thing together.

I didn't recover mine. I just bought an SL leather wheel and switched them out.
