Loose Tilt Lock Mechanism

Alright guys,

So i have a 2014 sedan and do admit that I abused the steering column tilt lever many times during the day. I used it so much that it finally came loose and left my steering column free to tilt up and down. I have searched the factory service manuals from the nico club host. I searched the web and this forum but can't find any articles relating to it. Just a video on youtube by Nissan showing you how to use the function.

I took the car to the dealer to get a quote on just the labor alone. $482.xx is what they want.

I'm not shelling out that money when I can do it myself. I just need to know if I have all the hardware needed and, of course, I have the main lever part.

If anyone can have a pointer to guide me to the right direction, that would be appreciated.

Don't know if this helps at all:

Only problem being that ebay offering doesn't seem to have any tilt parts on it at all.

And another being OP hasn't really said what is exactly wrong with his, as in handle only broken or the rachet and escapement broken, which may be if column freely goes up and down. Could even be something as simple as a broken spring.

I suggest going to nicoclub.com and registering for free and then downloading the appropriate section of the 2014 service manual that covers that, it will show a breakdown of all parts. The service manuals there are free.

I haven't checked much but I believe I came by the part number. Or at least can pull it from the lever I have saved.

The thing that is wrong is that the lever is held onto by washers, bolts, brackets, etc. and those came loose so I was able to yank the free-falling lever and put it away. So now it's time to put it back.

I did exactly as you recommended to do in the original post. But they seem to skip over that part in the ST.pdf document.

I appreciate your input. I'll keep digging in.

You may well be able to fix it with no parts at all, of course that will put you outside the operating parameters of the service manuals, which are geared solely to sell big parts. I tend to live in that other world though, and prefer being on my own there, it has saved me thousands over the years. You can always drop back to the 'accepted way' of doing things if it doesn't work.

Depends on what washers, bolts, bracket you are referring to. Pic it if you can, often worth a million bucks. Any more simple 'coming loose' often can be fixed...........

Yeah, it should be doable by yourself without paying, but pics would be really appreciated - often say more than thousand words. I will ask my friend over at DSRLeasing if he had any idea, cause if I remember correctly his wife may had similar problem with her Versa.
