Weight Reduction 101

Making this thread to show how much weight you can take out of the car by removing a few things. Of course, you don't have to go bonkers like me and strip everything out, but you can get almost a 10% reduction by removing everything I'm about to list..

Rear Seat:
Bottom-11 lb
Seat back-17 lb
Brackets-8 lb
Rear seatbelts-4 lb x3

Plastic Trim:
Door panels-7 lb x4
Kick panels-4 lb (inner and outer panels)
A+B+C Pillar covers-6 lb
Seat trim-7 lb
Various other trim-5 lb
Glove box - 7.5 lb

Trunk:
Floor-4 lb
Side walls-4 lb
Back-2 lb
Spare tire-24 lb
Jack/tool kit-10 lb
Rear deck cover-3 lb

Carpet:
Main carpet-12 lb
Floor mats-10 lb (I had the all weather ones)

Engine bay:
Stock battery-26 lb (I replaced with a braille 14 lb)
Engine cover-1 lb
Battery tray/brackets-2 lb
Stock airbox-9 lb (not sure what one of the CAI's weigh, but I bet its less)

And thats about it. Keep in mind that I haven't removed everything from my car. I still have the front door panels plus the center console. Most everything else is gone. When you add in the weight of the subwoofers I took out, My weight reduction is well over 200 lbs. Without the subs, I'm right around 173 pounds dropped (so that's the weight of stock stuff I've removed) When you add in 2 subs+box+amp+wiring, I'm just above 230. But damn, my goal was 10% which would be around 240 lbs...

So I went on a diet and lost 10 lbs. There ya go. 240 lbs dropped from the car, and my goal is met. They say for every 100 pounds you drop, you gain .1 seconds in the quarter mile. Now its time for some more power.

Suggestion :

Passenger seat
Headrest
Audio deck
The plastic trim found on instrumentation panel
Glovebox
Footrest next to the brakes/clutch
Wipers

-Drain all wiper fluid
-Reduce coolant fluid to minimum level
-Reduce amount of fuel in fuel tank. Normal full fillings are about 40L, instead fill only 10L.
Thats a saving in 30L, which is about approx saving of 48.5 LB.
-Reduce brake fluid level to minimum, if its safe :P

Drive without shoes/slippers.
Wear minimal clothing - i mean shorts,sleeveless :P

Edit:
Either fill nitrogen in tires. Or dont overfill air in tires above 33 psi. Instead do some warmup to heat up the tires to increase the pressure inside the tires. Remember exceeding pressure rating by each psi causes the tires to get very heavy. Its best to warmup before the event.

That should save lots :P

All things j do before an autocross event minus nitrogen in the tires. The footrest is part of the foam that's under the carpets. I didn't weigh it because it's practically nothing.

@rob, got the digital fish scale out to measure pieces individually. I did round to the nearest half pound.

I do daily drive the car, so i have to keep some comfort and functionality. Passenger seat, radio, and center console are staying in. Give box is debatable right now. Haha
