Note SL Intelligent Key

I will be picking up my 2014 Note SL next Thursday and I'm poking through the Manual to become familiar.

This intelligent key concerns me. Can it be disabled as far as unlocking the doors and hatch?

The Manual warns:

"When the Intelligent Key is within the operating range, it is possible for anyone, even someone who does not carry the Intelligent Key, to push the request switch to lock/unlock the doors." . . . . huh?

Where's the security and more importantly the SAFETY with such a system?

If I'm a certain distance from my car some carjacker can saunter over and push the little button on either of the front doors or the hatch and jump in?

I understand that this carjacker can't push the Start button and drive away but heck, he got into my car while I was just standing a few feet away.

Is the safety feature the fact that I can still run for my life with my intelligent key safely tucked away in my purse or pocket?

So does anyone know if the intelligent key to door button be disabled but still work inside the car so the Start button functions???

Thank you for help and ideas

Idk about the Note but my wife's Charger works this way. If you're more than a few feet from the car, you can't use the button or sensor to unlock the door, nor use the button to start the engine.
Edit...so to answer your question it is possible for someone to gain entry while you're standing right there, not unlike having a traditional hand held key.

Wait...

So I'm driving my Versa in a bad neighborhood, and have my doors locked, a Igger can just double push that button and gain entry to rob me?

(it's within range of the F.O.B.)

Open my passenger door and he got a gun!! If I'm parked in traffic, WTF!!

I assume the outer button is inactive while ignition on. Better double check that though.

I'm sure you are correct but I can't find anything in the versa note manual to assure owners that the system is secure when you are inside the car.

I spoke to my salesguy at Scarborough Nissan and the intelligent key function that unlocks the doors is disabled when inside the car.

What irks me is that Nissan doesn't mention this 'safety' concern anywhere that I can find in the car's Manual.

IF this info is in the Manual please tell me where to find it.

Thanks for the help

ps picking up my Note SL on Thursday afternoon.

This feature is not unique to Nissan as I think every brand with an Intelligent Key follows the same or very similar protocol with few variations.

I have read a few owner manuals but I do not recall seeing anything about the assurance you are looking for. Maybe it is just a given that the system once locked, it cannot be unlocked from the outside. Otherwise they are opening themselves up for possible litigation.

I suppose this should be fairly easy to confirm. Just roll the window down and try to unlock with the outside button after the car started to roll and the doors automatically lock.

Now why didn't I think of that??? First test on Thursday afternoon !

Nissan has installed an armrest in the driver's seat but it is a bit too high. Dealers says nothing can be done to fix this small irritation. I'm average height at 5'6" so I wonder what Nissan used to measure the installation height.

Sorry I did not have the intelligent key option otherwise I would have checked it and reported back.

That's interesting, I'm also 5'6" and the drivers armrest fits OK, no problem. I wished it had another one on the passenger seat though.

LOL that is the first thing my passengers are going to say on Thursday.

Guess it depends if our height is in the legs or the torso . . . whatever it is, mine is obviously in the wrong place. ;-)
