'09 Versa Base w/ 256K miles
Hi everyone, I'm new here and I came across this site looking for answers on modifications for the 1.6 L base model Versa. Obviously I am way out of warranty for anything, and I am here looking for the potential of swapping my 5MT to a 6MT. Is there a thread that someone could point me to? With such a swap can I still use the same ECU? What I am gathering is that the 1.8L has the 6MT and the same block...so in my head the 6MT would match up to my car and I would need to deal with ECU incompatibility...... or do I need to find a matching ECU and 6MT? I've been looking for hours, lol... so much info here in the forums.
My overall goal would be a lower running RPM and better MPG. at 80 MPH it sits on 4000 RPM, but still manages 38-39 MPG. Its my commuter car, so I plan on driving it as long and as cheaply as I can. I am currently making arrangements to get another engine in my hands, so that I can swap when this one doesn't make sense to repairs. And YES, I have seen the engine knock problem in the 1.6 L...... is there a sure fire way to fix this? then again, if I can pick up an engine with 40k miles on it for $350-400 (in Florida) and it last as long as 250K, I could never complain!
I have been the only owner of it and have been strict on the maintenance (doing it all myself) and just did the timing chain 6 weeks ago. I couldn't believe it, but I am still holding 205-210 lb of pressure in each cylinder.
Thanks in advance and I appreciate anything you can help me with!
