2007 Versa elecrical problems

I recently replaced the CVT transmission on my Versa, The engine was pulled to replace the transmission. When everything was hooked back up, The dashboard likes started flickering when turning the key. The engine cranks but will not start. There is a clicking sound at the front of the engine and the fuse box beside the ECM. I traced all of the wiring and everything is hooked up correctly. The battery is also new. Any help would be appreciated

After the transmission was pulled, was the car working properly, and if so for how long??

The car ran before we pulled the transmission, after we replaced the transmission it would crank but would not try to start. The dashboard lights would flicker and the clicking sounds in the fuse box and front of engine. This all happened when the ignition switch is on.

Id try to rotate the crank shaft either by hand of hand tool as the engine might be binding if it was not corrected mated to the tranny.

Did you check the starter battery or put it on a charger for 8 hours? Could be low or bad starter battery.

What about ground or grounding straps? Its ok to ground the engine to the car, its just not advised to ground back to the battery as they use a gizmo somewhere to measure power consumption by the negative terminal of the battery.

I checked all the grounding straps, the engine turns easily, the battery is new and I placed it on a charger over night. I found that the clicking in the fuse box was the cooling fan relay. I unhooked the wiring to the cooling fan and the clicking stopped also the dashboard quit flickering. The engine cranks but still will not try to start. I checked fuel pump and the pressure regulator, there isn't any issues with them.

How long did the whole process take?

I knew a guy who got a junkyard engine for his car and it wouldnt work. Turned out the injectors were frozen and once they were replaced it ran.

When you remove a spark plug do you smell gas?

Do you have any error codes?

Cam and crank position sensors are a few of many sensors that if not connected properly an engine will not even attempt to fire.

Gasoline goes bad between 6 months and a year and has a foul smell to it.

Have you scanned the car with a code reader? Below is a rather primitive diagnostic procedure that was posted by another member, but can help you pinpoint the issue:

Pull a spark plug and leave it exposed but connected and grounded. Crank the starter to see if it sparks. If it does not, then you have an ignition problem. If it sparks then you may have a fuel problem. While the plug is out, check the condition of the spark plug, if it's dry or soaking in fuel.

If you have spark, reinstall the spark plug, get some starting fluid and spray some inside the intake manifold, anywhere convenient, maybe near the throttle body or air cleaner (a 2-3 sec squirt will do). Try to start the engine, if the engine fires and dies, then you just confirmed it is a fuel problem.
