I have a 2010 Nissan Versa. While I was driving the 'service engine soon' light came up. Found that the trouble code was P1421 x 3 (Cold Start Control, Short to ground). My car is running fine. But, little freaked out by this light.
Anyone had a similar problem? I have called the dealer for help. But, they told that just a cost of diagnosis is $140. And, if I repair with them, the diagnosis fee will be waived. I am assuming that the repair fee would be more than that. Or, I will have to pay at least $140.
Please share your experiences, since I came to learn that this is a common problem in Nissan cars.
The code indicates that the problem might be with air intake, clogged fuel injector or pump or faulty ECM.
The engine air filter is new and the car was running without any issue for more than two thousand miles after it was replaced, so I believe it is not causing the problem. And, it's still is in a good shape.
Next thing I did was added fuel system clear in the gas tank. And, also cleaned the gas cap.
Now the service engine soon light is gone. Hopefully, it won't come back. If it does I might have to check for any loose electrical connection as my code says 'cold start control, short to ground.'
