This issue just went from the frying pan directly into the fire.

Nissan absolutely CANNOT tell you the bags were changed correctly with that light on, if they did you have a very winnable lawsuit there when the bags do not work in a crash as they WON'T with that light on. The light going out and staying out is what tells them the bag change was successful, it was impossible to complete the work without it. They should have been all over the OP and in his face about it, the ENTIRE problem needs fixing or the bag change is incompetently done. It would be illegal in many states to put a car back out on the street like that. They should have refused to work on the car unless the underlying issue was fixed too. That of course would have to be paid for, likely not part of the bag recall issue. Unless they are reusing old bags removed from other cars. Don't get me started............

If car gets in a crash that injures or kills someone the lawyers will have so many legal questions there the case will last for months. If Nissan truly did that they will be on the hook bigtime unless they deny ever changing the bags at all and possibilities of even that as well.

OP has a serious issue here now way beyond a light coming on. I suggest Nissan HAS TO look at the car now regardless of what the owner thinks. A different dealer of course.

Do an airbag system reset and go from there...........

OP: does your paperwork from Nissan after airbags replacement mentions anything about light being ON before or after replacement?

i do not believe they even mentioned it i will try and find my paperwork for proof but I would assume at this point it is my word against theirs

hello guys

So yesterday after starting the car I had a similar issue: light started blinking, so I went into diagnostic mode to figure out the sequence...it turns out it is code B1052 or B1057: Driver airbag module circuits are shorter to each other.

I had to replace the clock spring like a month ago so that might be the issue but I disconnected everything and try to clear/read the codes again with a scanner and they are still there.

I think the issue might be in:

1)clock spring (because I changed it recently, and it might be faulty...but I have no other issues with the clockspring)
2)driver airbag module that needs to be replaced (hope not)
3)airbag diagnostic sensor (the one under the console) that went bad

Today I have to go the dealer...do I start with a complete airbag system reset? Let me know if you have any hints

Oh, I did took in the car last year for the airbag recall.

Clocksprings are finicky things and fail very quickly if not installed just right. If you do not have them exactly centered in the steering you can give it up, it WILL go bad again and quick.

Could be the bag too but no way to tell that without power through the airbag and just about guaranteed it goes off doing that. I have done it successfully but no way will I tell how as it is simply too dangerous.

I'll change the clock spring again today.
The one I bought was a...cheaper one from eBay and it was installed right and 100% centered, the issue happened after a very warm day and the car was sitting under the sun. Maybe the part was just too cheap.

I'll install today an OEM Nissan clockspring and well' see

Nissan mastertech told me that he never saw a faulty airbag module yet...

What a dumb-ss tech response.............You can't test them to even tell it, they BLOW UP. There is NO SERVICE TEST PROCEDURE to even begin to tell that directly, indirect only (I have made up one for my own personal use of course). And where on earth has that idiot been during the Takata fiasco? Virtually every Nissan bag module for the last 10 years plus has been bad.

If you took a car in last year the new bags are likely just as bad as the ones they replaced, only they are not as old. Nissan was forced to do that to even think about fixing the issue as Takata went through bankruptcy and the ensuing slowdown of production then.

Nissan knows that many cars being 'fixed' now will later have to have the bags changed AGAIN, as they are still using 'new' bad ones to replace the 'old' bad ones now, they do not in any way have enough brand new 'modified to not kill people' bags in stock at all.

the Tech only told me that he didn't think the airbag module was shorted, he said the the issue was likely somewhere else.

Looks like he was right, I replaced the clockspring with an OEM Nissan and the light went away after the reset.

He was playing the numbers there as he has no way of telling short of installing a new bag.
