False.

The RS5F91R has TWO pilot bearings front and back of the input shaft (see FSM Section TM-31). Whatever is causing the drone sound is caused by something else entirely, but the RS5 has been used in the Versa since 2012 after the HR16DE was chosen as their primary powerplant.

I have noticed this drone on my 2015 1.6S base as well, but from what I can tell the operation is normal. I have 100k miles on my N17 now, mechanic-owned, all service intervals followed to the "T", and it still makes a partial whine. I'll have the HR16 back together within a month and will see if I can reproduce this issue, but I'm at 100k and nothing has fallen apart so I am doubtful.

This is the interior bell housing of a RS5F91R, for anyone curious. Same transmission used on the K13 Micra and a handful of other Nissan vehicles. Notice the pilot bearing and TOB is clearly visible.
