I have a 2007 Nissan Versa SL hatchback.

I noticed that my gas is running out very fast. I only drove about 20 minutes in a busy city and it went down 1-2 lines on the fuel meter. Usually it will be 1/4 full after about 3 weeks. At this rate I'm looking at about 1-1.5 weeks until then.

Any idea why?

Use a pencil and paper to keep track of your mileage and fuel usage. Fill up your tank, and write down the odometer mileage. Next time you fill up, subtract the old mileage figure from the new one which will give you miles traveled. Divide the number of gallons to fill the tank into the miles traveled and that will give you your real miles per gallon figure. Fuel gauges can give false readings and I would never depend them to give me a true picture of my mileage.

When the temp was close to 0 F I lost 10 mpg as my car seemed to burn it faster. Unless its suddenly colder its likely you got an oxygen sensor going bad or a leaking injector. The oxygen sensor should trigger a engine code or pending engine code. THe leaking injector will lead to a smell of gas, hard starting and gassy smelling oil in the engine.

This is all assuming you do not have a physical leak from under your car and you didnt get some ethanol flavored gas like e85 or so as ethanol burns more and faster as it has less energy than gas.

It's winter where I am. Might be why? Temps here are single digits, some nights it's -10 ish.

Maybe winter blend fuels in your area? I know my mileage always drops a bit after the winter blend is brought into my area.
Hmm... Yeah that must be it. I've noticed it happening since winter began.

Yeah, coming from a hybrid which is temp sensitive on fuel economy and use of the heater or ac this car seems rather numb to that til the cold snap covered all of America a few weeks ago. When it was nearly 0F here and I started my drive to work My mpg meter went from 43 down to 30 in a matter of a few miles and stayed there for the whole week. :surprise

On my 16 Note SV I keep the gas mileage on a phone app. I usually stay around 40/41 in the summer drops to 36 in cold weather. Has gone all the way down to 32 when it stayed below 10 degrees for a week. I have a record of every fill up since I bought the car. Even gives me a yearly gas cost and keeps an overall average (39).

When I was unemployed I use to go out and get a news paper and cup of coffee less than a mile from I love down a 45 mph road with no sidewalks. My poor hybrid went 3 months on the same tank of gas, but my average was like 9mpg. :surprise

When it warms up again Ill retest my e 15 and e85 tests as I think my gas station got them reversed.

It could also be that when the defroster is running, it does cycle the a/c compressor as well.
