Hi Guys,
I have heard that a fuse can be pulled to prevent battery drain when towing my 2007 Nissan Versa. Which fuse is it?
I know that I have to leave key in ignition to allow for unlocking of steering wheel. I also know that the drain on my battery using the current method does not fully drain the battery over a 500 mile trip. I then start the vehicle (after 500 miles) as per manual's recommendation, allowing to run for 20 minutes to bring up the battery charge. I also am aware of the many other means to prevent drain by running wiring from the MH or truck battery. I realize that if I pull the incorrect fuse to do a search in an attempt to find the correct one, I will probably screw up settings on my clock and radio.
I am telling you all of this as I am only inquiring about the correct fuse to be pulled and save you the time to offer other solutions.
HAVE ANY ONE OF YOU TOWED THIS WAY AND WHICH FUSE DID YOU PULL.
Lastly, I have asked Nissan and was given the usual run around.

Why don't you just disconnect the negative battery terminal (and make sure it does not touch anything conductive while being towed) and be done? Loosing your clock and radio settings is a small price to pay.

Beware.

If the car is automatic trans and you tow past maybe 50 miles while turning the front wheels you can easily tear the trans up. Even leaving the trans in neutral does not prevent that as the engine is not running and the oil pump not pumping. SOME parts will lube by splash but today's modern trans often has drive shell inside shell inside another shell to effectively limit splash oil getting into all deeper location bushings as needed like the pump does. Look at the transmission oil pump flow diagram, the trans pumps oil to a bunch of places even in neutral.

If manual trans then those have enough major parts exposed so that splash oiling can work fine.

It may even work on the automatic but why would somebody wreck a car to find out? Whether or not it works depends on the individual design.
