My son's 09 Versa HB was vandalized in a parking lot- someone kicked the hatch, it won't open with the button from the outside, and I popped the small inside cover off per the owners manual, tried to open it manually, it still won't open- any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've been searching this forum and haven't found anything that would help yet.
That's what we're thinking at this point. I called a local salvage yard, a replacement is $250, my next step will probably be to cut the plastic around the latch and see if I can't force the latch out. All this in 90+ degree weather...
Have you tried kicking the hatch from the inside when released?
You should be able to pull the plastic down with the hatch closed. Won't be easy but can be done.
There are also Dynamat like pieces that you will have to take off.
About the only way somebody could kick a trunklid would be in toward the car. I would crawl inside and kick back OUT in an effort to reproduce the same impact but in a reverse direction. The latch may loosen up to come loose. I've have that cover off before and it is stupid simple to work the latch with it off and working normally.
