As anyone seen this before?

Versa SL 2009, keyless remote started to refuse to work while in our driveway. (both remotes)

- Changed batteries... no joy.
- Keyless remote works everywhere else (store parking, mall parking, etc.) as long as it's not in our driveway.

The only new additions were a 802.11ac router and USB modem. I unplugged both (just in case) with no change.

We don't have any wireless security installed and unless I am mistaken, the keyless entry works in the 315 MHz band.

Do I need to borrow a spectrum analyzer and sniff the area to see if I have interference in the 315 MHz band? Any ideas?

Can anyone share the actual frequency(ies) being used by the remote so I can use a "poorman's spectrum analyzer" (i.e. a UHF receiver :)

Obviously there is some sort of interference. Did it just start around the holidays? I have seen car remotes avtivate such things as security lights and garage doors. Same with those remotes that can wirelessly activate Christmas lights.

Or a neighbor could be using a jammer for whatever reason. Might want to be careful as it is common for thieves to use a jammer when you are locking your door so you think it is locked...but it isnt. Then they go and get all your goodies.

Nope... I am 99.9% certain that this is not an intentional jammer. Problems started around the holidays but my wife just told me about it today.

I assume there is some interference so the only way to be sure is to sniff the RF around our driveway to see if there are other 315 MHz signals. If I find one, then I can track to where it's originating from quite easily. I don't know if home security systems use the 315 MHz band but if they do, then this might be the culprit.

Tools wise, I do have a receiver that works up to 315 MHz but if push comes to shove, I'll borrow a spectrum analyzer from the office. This is one time when being a communications engineer has an advantage LOL. BTW, any links to a source of the actual frequencies these devices work on?

As for locking the car, my wife told me that since she started to see this problem she ensures that the doors are locked before entering the home.

Many of the security systems sold from China use the 315 MHZ band for their wireless window and door sensors. These are systems that do not report to a central terminal and are usually user installed. The sensors have a pretty good range, so if your neighbor installed one, it may be causing your problem. Good luck!!
