2010 Versa non cvt not accelerating when lights are on.

I drive a 2010 versa s hatch auto non cvt trans. A few weeks ago I noticed my car when i have my head lights on it will not give full power in accelerating past 40mph, but when the headlights are off it will give full power. Now normally something like this would be cause to a faulty brake switch. That has been replaced and still the issue occurs, now i work for nissan as a tech and theres nothing in our service manuals or recalls that have to deal with this, now im curious if anyone else has had a similar issue and if so how did you fix it?

I'm not a tech, but i suspect faulty voltage regulator within the alternator.
Had an Aerostar many moons ago that would sputter when all the lights, blowers and rear defroster on, had many km on it too.
Just assuming, check connections at alternator. Hope it helps!

Thanks for the input, I have already been through testing my alternator and connections, even battery voltage, everything that would be a common cause for this issue i've checked out and had tested with all my nissan computer tools and testers which is why this is stumping me.

I swear there was someone else with this problem. Basically the brake was applying pressure all the time. I can't seem to find the link though.

I see you already assumed the switch so I'm really lost. I hope you figure it all out and post the fix.

Thanks, that thread was a lil bit helpful, I'm checking the master cylinder tonight, and also taking a road test and having a tranny module test running while i drive, both my tranny and master cylinder are warrenty for another 3k miles if i find the issue ill post the repair process step by step

Nothing to do with ground wire(s) being problematic? I understand you tested electrical with meters, but sometime bad grounds can cause problems. Not sure about this problem, but something to think about? Good Luck.

We had a "possessed" car where strange things like this would happen. We had the battery tested and it came up fine. A local mechanic friend came over and immediately said replace the battery. He says it can cause weird things. We took out the battery and went off to Walmart for a new one. Put the new one in and he was 100 percent right. Fixed all the problems.

I had the same problem. Two things I found. Left rear tail light harness was all chewed up and shorted. Also, this is a good one. The tail light bulb that was installed by the owner was an old 1156 single post lamp basically shorting out every time the lights were on and brakes applied. Changed the bulb to the proper P21/5v and all was good. Repaired the harness for good measure I have also seen one of the bulb filaments burn off and ground itself. Could cause the same issue.
