2012 HB Sound System Makeover

Hey guys,

I'm new here. Unfortunately I don't own or drive a Nissan Versa, but my co-worker does. Recently listened to her car, and the distortion is really horrible in the higher volume range. Her B-Day is coming up, so I'm planning to surprise her by installing a new headunit, back up camera, speakers, and potentially a subwoofer if the budget allows.

So far I have ordered the following:
JVC KW-AV61
Metra 99-7603
Scosche NN04B / NN04
Scosche NAA2B / NAA2
JVC KS-U30
JVC RM-RK252P

Rockford Fosgate P165
x 2 sets for the doors
DEI 050331 Boom Mat 6.5" Round Slim Speaker Baffle x2
2 sets of Speaker Harness Adapters from Ebay

Koolertron Rear View License Plate Backup CMOS Camera

Also ordered the AC Knobs from Ebay.
Silver/Black

Potential Sub:
Rockford Fosgate P300-10

I would have liked components for the fronts, but she has the base model 2012 Hatchback, so no tweeters in the A-Pillars, and I don't want to drill into her pillar or door. She isn't an audiophile anyway, so I think the Rockford Fosgate P165s will be plenty enough for her.

So I just had a couple of questions. First it seems that I would be needing to purchase some speaker spacers since the mounting depth of the Rockford Fosgates are almost 3" deep. If I recall correctly, the mounting depth of the Versa in the front at least is roughly 2.15ish? Any comments?

Second, I think i covered pretty much everything that I need to buy minus the RCA cable and power/ground/remote turn on etc for the subwoofer if I decide to go that route. (Still debating) Did i miss anything?

Lastly, just wanted feedback in regards to wiring the back-up camera. Seems like I would have to remove the entire rear bumper to access any grommets or holes in order to run the wire. Thoughts?

Must say, I have been lurking the forums for the past few days researching about this project, and it has been very helpful.

Potential install date is 2-3 weeks from now as I am still waiting for everything to come in. Pics to follow before, during, and after installation.

:D

Went ahead and bought the speaker brackets off ebay.

Bracket

I was able to look under the rear license plate, and I could see some light shining through, I guess if i remove the rear bumper and the plastic cover along the trunk I should be able to find somewhere to route the back-up camera wires. That's my biggest concern.

Can't wait for all the parts to arrive. Christmas in September. =)

I also got my brackets from ebay. They work as promised. Have you thought about going to a junkyard to see if you can find some SL A-pillars? The wiring up to the A-pillar isn't hard to install. When I installed my amp, I ran new speaker wire to the tweeters.

Also, have you thought of the Kicker Hideaway? I have that installed under my passenger seat. Perfect sound and everything looks stock. What I have done to my car is here: http://www.nissanversaforums.com/car-showroom/8377-red_alert-2011-versa-sl.html

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I already ordered the speakers. If it were for my car, I'd go through the effort to find SL A pillars but since its just for my friend she will have to live with the 2-ways.

And that's the first time I've seen the Kicker Hideaway. Seems nice, i like the size, but unfortunately its not within my budget. The Rockford Fosgate P300-10 is roughly $170. The Versa trunk is kinda small, but the sub is removable, so it shouldn't be that big of an issue.
Bought some Reverse lights today. I've had personal experience (on my car currently) w/ this kind of LED and they really help when backing up.

Although they are the slim-profile version, they do look well constructed. Can't wait to get the rest and install everything. :drool5:

Not as strong as mine tho

I dont have pics of the speaker install, but it was pretty straightforward. I'll take one of the door panels off to show what it looks like now.

Overall easy install, biggest pain in the butt was wiring the back up camera and routing the wires. But everything works flawlessly. I'm especially pleased with the AC Knobs, matches the headunit's volume knob perfectly and makes it look like a factory install. Headunit is awesome, makes me want to get one.

If anyone has any questions don't hesitate to ask.
