Can a subcompact be fun to drive, attractive, fuel efficient, geek-friendly and affordable? It seems like Ford is trying to combine all those traits into one tiny package, and while the Ford Fiesta was a fun to drive subcompact in the past, too many issues have kept it from being at the top of the class. However, powertrain refinements and a few extra updates have come for the 2014 model year, and Ford now has the opportunity to take back some lost ground in the small car market.

EVEN SMALL CARS CAN GET LUXURIES

Hard to miss, the Fiesta is rarely seen in a pedestrian paint job, a good thing too, since the car is so attractive. A lot full of Fiestas looks like a bowl full of Skittles, and the Fiesta is just as smile inducing as the sweet candies. For 2014, the subcompact gets the Ford corporate grille which some say is borrowed from Aston Martin, while others see a cheese-grater stuck to the front end. Regardless of the origin or inspiration, the Fiesta is undeniably hot and receives a mild exterior tweak.

If you are six feet tall, it's functionally a two seater.
But since North America will shortly see the multi award winning 1.0L Ecoboost in the Fiesta, it's back on my semi-short list.

Also, quote referencing Versa:
Daimler is interested in Ford’s technology because it’s developing a new three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine with alliance partner Renault-Nissan. We likely will see a version of it in the Nissan Versa here in North America. Nothing is confirmed, but if it’s going in the next-generation Renault Twingo minicar, then why not the Versa?

If Diamler is going to be doing anything it's going to be with Infiniti they already have plans of sharing a small car platform with Mercedes. Nissan is going to be building high end four cylinder motors in the Tennessee plant for use in Mercedes and Infiniti products. Also they have plans to build the CLA in a Nissan plant in Mexico.

Sadly I have a feeling Nissan will not get much love at least not initially, Nissan has ample experience in small displacement supercharged engines overseas. Except to see someting built in house before spending the effort to source motors elsewhere.

wasn't sure where to put this and didn't want to start a new thread on it but here is a dyno tested fiesta ST

Wow this thing is impressive. No reason nissan can't shoehorn the mr16ddt into the note and sell it in limited numbers to compete with this.

Interesting details for dyno testing with finicky intercoolers and 91 octane!
Now I'm VERY curious how the next turbo four Mustang will fare.

I was waiting for over a decade to get my hands on a European Focus,
then we get the Fiesta, complicating things.

Which would you choose, the Fiesta ST or the Focus ST?
Also the Ecoboost Fiesta or two litre Focus?

The Fiesta is more affordable and still very impressive, I would go for the Fiesta ST. If money wasn't an issue than the Focus ST of course.

the only thing for me at least is if you're going to be having passengers in the back seat it is VERY cramped when you sit back there in the fiesta
