2014 Nissan Versa maintenance questions

Hello guys, I have a 2014 Nissan Versa S plus with 13,000 miles on it. I have been using Mobil 1 0-30 oil with a Fram Ultra Synthetic filter and I change my oil every 3,000 miles (5,000 km).

I use the 0-30 since it claims to help save gas and meet all warranty requirements as a 5-30 oil. I did however notice yellow oil sludge inside my oil cap. I drive about 8 miles to work and back (all highway) and am thinking these short trips are causing this sludge build up.

Also, as a third note, I always use 3.7 quarts of oil (3.5 liters) and notice the oil level on the dip stick to be half a center meter above the hatch mark (just above the H mark) after every oil change. Anyone else notice their dip stick to be off a bit?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback and really enjoy my Versa. My wife had a 2011 and really liked hers and that is what convinced me to go out and get one for myself.

5000 km is way too soon? I have a 14 Note and am still using non synthetic for a few changes. But then will change to mobil 1 5w30 I think.
For the yellow sludge, sounds like you need to take your car for a longer drive occasionally, especially as it get's colder. Alternatively, an "Italian tune-up" might also help, if you usually drive gently. I haven't seen that on our 14, but it get's lot's of highway miles. I think 3K is short, but that's your choice. I had UOA done on Amsoil OE 5w-30 synthetic after 5K (6K total miles) and it was fine.

I find on oil changes to get top of the stick full I add 3.3 liters. But, I'm going to a bigger filter so that is going to change. The stick and service manual don't seem to agree with each other.
Yellow sludge is quite unusual. Typically you would see white sludge which is usually water (mixed with the oil) that has not evaporated.

Our Note is almost 6 months old but only has 3600 miles of mostly (95%) city driving of 2-6 miles each trip. About every week I would take it out on the freeway and do a few WOTs and try to drive it hard (i.e Italian tune up). I'm still on the original fill but I just checked and did not find any yellow sludge in the filler cap.

There always the ongoing debate on oil change intervals but I'm one of those who try to strictly follow manufacturer's recommended change interval using regular (non-syn) oil in most cases.

Synthetic oils are great for cars that are driven hard most of the time, or are subjected to high heat conditions (e.g. turbocharged/supercharged or hot ambient places) or cars driven in very cold climates and parked outside overnight.

I would use the viscosity recommended in the owners manual.
But, I'm going to a bigger filter so that is going to change.
I hate how tiny our filter is and was wanting to do the same. What's the larger model number/size filter that you found?
