Many of the components in fuel systems aren't technically compatible with ethanol, just ask old car owners about this. However ethanol/alcohol has been in fuel for a long time. The owners manual for my 1987 Porsche even says that they recommend non ethanol fuel but that 10% ethanol content can be used.
