I'm a little disturbed after reading the Fuel Recommendation section of the 2014 Nissan Versa. It indicates the following things:
1) unleaded regular gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87 should be used, but then it states to research octane number 91.
Is it suggesting to use octane 91 (premium gas)? Is that necessary?
2) It basically states not to use oxygenated gas (ethanol, etc.). But if you do use it, to use no more than 10% ethanol or up tp 15% MTBE.
Are they sh*tting me? This is 2013. This stuff has been in the gas for more than 7 years. From what I've read, more than 95% of gas stations in the U.S. use oxygenated gas. I cannot believe Nissan is even saying this. If I had known this, I would have talked my mom out of even buying a Nissan.
Her previous car (a '98 Ford/Mercury) had nothing but problems using oxygenated gas. The fuel filter and other parts were repeatedly getting gunked up. Water kept getting into something (can't remember what parts) and the car would have start issues. I believe that some of the problems may have had something to do with the oxygenated gas from one of three gas stations (Sheetz, 7-Eleven, or Exxon).
I'm wondering how many problems this Nissan is going to have.
