Hey guys, so I want to race at 24 hours of Lemons this year and I need a car.. Only rule is that it has to be under $500 (minus the cost of safety equipment). I'd prefer something that already has some aftermarket support so that I can get things like seat brackets and roll cage plans cheap. The car has to be outfitted with a non reclining race seat, a roll cage, and a fire extinguisher. Any suggestions? If you're bored, feel free to check out craigslist (maine) and post up links! So far I've looked at a BMW 525, a VW Jetta, and a Dodge Neon. The neon was the only thing that looked promising so far, but it doesn't have much power. The race is going to be on a road course.

500 is just for the car, you can put as much as you want into making it safe. Roll cage and approved harness are a must can't compete without, big breaks needed to make hard turns. I would really suggest a fuel cell, I know that goes beyond what you want to spend but can't stay in a race if have to stop for gas every few hours.
Yes, the cost of safety equipment is not included in the price of the car, and while fuel cells are not required, I was thinking of including one. I was figuring that under racing conditions we'd have to stop for gas every 3 hours or so, depending on the size of the tank. maybe a little less.
