Hey guys,

So I only realized this today as I was getting my oil changed today, that my AEM dry flow filter for my CAI was wet (or soaked in the oil changer guy's words). It did however rain yesterday and could see why it could be wet.

So now the question is, is there a problem with this filter being wet? I'm pretty sure for the few years I've had it I've never had any issues that I could point my finger to my CAI and from my knowledge my engine runs great and I doubt any water is being pulled into the engine from my CAI. I am also getting mixed reviews on the net about it being a problem and then on the flip side not being something to worry about.

So does anyone else have similar stories? Or think I should be getting a pre filter wrap or a bypass valve to solve this issue? Give me your suggestions and thoughts! :)

Only thing is you don't want it sucking water up into the engine ... So maybe a bypass valve is something you need to get ...

Did you drive it through big puddles?

We have been hit with lots of rain lately ... :(

You are fine, if the filter gets wet don't worry about it. Its only when its fully "submerged' in a puddle is when your car will Hydrolock.

I am missing the inner lining of my fender so my CAI is exposed. It rained a couple weeks ago and I asked Bob over at Versaspeed if I would be ok and he said yes. I took his word for it and I drove 60+ miles that day to work and back in the pouring rain. The filter was sopping wet and I got nervous. So I took the filter off and put my fingers in the piping and it was BONE dry, so no water was making it up to the engine.


Long story short, your fine. If I can drive with an exposed filter 60+miles in the rain, then your good to go.:thumb2:

puddles are fine, its fully submerging it is the problem.

And if you hydrolock it you will know. Lol. My buddy did it to his jeep on a trail with me in it. Engine cuts out and never starts again. Made for a pretty long night as it was 1:30am when in popped and we had to get it off the trail and wait for our 2 hour tow home

Speaking of cone filters, how often do you guys clean yours?

Thanks so much for the reply guys :) I feel a lot better now lol

and im actually gonna clean mine again before i put on my winter tires (which is soon), i cleaned it previously in the spring. So im doing it twice a year just cause lol

ya just every couple of months for me. sometimes just for convenience ill change it every other oil change

Yeah I know :( My brother is only home once in a while from Ottawa. Every time he's here there is no time or something comes up ... :(
all you really have to do is turn the wheel, pull the fender liner back and take the filter off. its a little squeeze but it works :thumb2:
