Hi guys
My 2011 Versa has had the air bag light blinking since before I bought it 1 1/2 years ago. After performing the "ignition on/off 3 times" thing to get into diagnostic mode, the warning light comes on for about 3 seconds, then blinks 6 times. Then this cycle repeats.

Can anyone tell me what I should check? I have a code reader, but it doesn't read SRS.

I had the car in for an air bag recall a few months ago. They replaced the airbags and they told me the mechanic noticed the warning light was flashing when it was brought in, but of course they didn't fix it - they just told me I should bring it in to be fixed.

I had a similar issue with an SRS light in an old BMW and I fixed it by cleaning a contact in the driver's seat belt. So I'm hoping this one might be something simple that I can do myself, rather than dropping hundreds of dollars at the dealer.

I'm assuming that in the event of an accident, the air bags will inflate. Or no???

Suggestions???

Thanks
Ross

You might want to give this a look and see if it has any information you can use:

My 07 Versa airbag light came on a few years ago. It was the clock spring issue. I replaced it with a clock spring from Amazon for $50.

A couple of easy things to check
The wiring harnesses under the driver and passenger seats. See that there are no broken wires, and make sure the connectors are still attached. There are 2 on drivers and 3 on passenger seats.
Make sure the light next to the radio is connected and working.

Have you done any kind of work or mods to the car that may have affected the SRS?

Outside of replacing the Spiral Cable, as mentioned above, there really isn't too much you can do without at least having a dealer run diagnostics.

Depending on the airbag code often if the light is on the bags will not fire in an accident.
