I don't know how much a junk yard one goes for but the ebay one i got works great for what i need. It's better than what i thought it would be. I'm happy with what i got and for the price i paid for it. I can take it out in a second if i need to for what ever reason. Never regretted getting it.The armrest does not interfere with shifting, I own an SL six speed and it shifts very well; there is plenty of space between the shifter and the armrest. Now for the bad news. Don't get the ebay one. The top part gets screwed to the lower part of your existing center console. When I saw one installed, the fit didn't feel right. There was a bit of wobble, plus the finish of the piece feels cheap and weak. My buddy leaned his forearm and the thing creaked. I say spend the time and get a full armrest from the junkyard. I posted a tread on how to install it (removing center console). happy hunting!
