Blinking airbag light

Hi,

I took the Versa (now with 55,000 miles on it) to the Splashes car wash. But when I drove away, the airbag light started flashing. Has been exploding ever since. What is wrong, and is it an easy fix?

Thanks

PS. It's a 2012 Versa S

Got this off another versa forum:

1. Turn the key from off to on(not ACC).

2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key off instantly.

3. Count to 5 secs(1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi . . . .)

4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times.

5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry.

6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing.

Thanks. I tried all that but then I read somewhere that someone had something similiar and it was because one of the seats was unplugged. So I looked under the seats and the passenger seat was unplugged. Light isn't blinking anymore. :)

Awesome, glad you found a solution and posted for us
I may have said it already, but I also had an 88 Crown Vic, but a 302 fleet car, manual windows and locks, no cruise or clock, and an aftermarket radio. Our new Charger takes me back to those days a bit.
Enjoy. 08v

The Police package has a column mounted shifter. Even more reminiscent eh?

You have a 3.6 Charger don't you? They're generally good motors, lots of power, there was an incident with the heads (valve seats i believe) around your year but only a few.

Yes, and I know someone with a 3.6 Avenger. I need to get him to Cayuga Dragway to see who can get their groceries the fastest...
I drove, PDI'ed and detailed those 3.6 Avengers/200's when they first came out when i was working at London City Chrysler, i always thought they'd be a hell of a sleeper as they get old for the enthusiast crowd. 3.6 200S would be like a new Buick Regal GS as far as sleeper status.

I second this technique. What actually happened to mine was my passenger seat was unhooked below(wires) i reconnected , still had blinking. But after this method. Nada. I was good .

Sweet man. This worked for me.
Usually happens from having stuff jammed under the seats.

Yup, this did it for my Nissan versa 2015. I unplugged the socket behind the center vent while installing my after market stereo, it started blinking. Did the steps above, I turn off and on maybe 10 time and it finally work.

Does your 2019 Versa still have 3-year/36,000 mile warranty?

Worked like a charm. Thank you very much.

The procedure listed above is somewhat incorrect. You can't use the light as a timer. I found the below procedure and used a watch to time it. It's very sensitive to getting the timing exactly right. I did 7 seconds on, 2 seconds off for each on/off cycle and it put it into diagnostic mode. Then I turned it off after 7 seconds and let it sit for 3 seconds. It shut the light off on a 2012 Versa SV.

SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Use C-III plus to check for Air Bag DTCs and perform repairs as needed.
NOTE: If there are any Air Bag DTCs, necessary repairs must be completed and DTCs cleared before continuing.
2. Return the Air Bag Diagnosis Sensor Unit to User Mode as follows:
NOTE: Do not use the air bag warning light as a timer for the following steps.
a. Obtain a timer that will accurately measure seconds (stop watch, stop watch app, etc.).
b. At the same time, turn the ignition ON and start the timer.
c. At 7 seconds, turn the ignition OFF. NOTE:  You must turn the ignition OFF within 1 second (turn ignition OFF after 7 seconds and before 8 seconds has elapsed). If 8 seconds elapse before turning OFF the ignition, you must start over from the beginning.  If you are on the 2nd or 3rd repeat, starting over means repeating all 3 times again.
d. Wait 2-3 seconds.
e. Repeat steps b, c, and d – 2 more times (total of 3 times).
NOTE: You must turn the ignition ON again for the 2nd and 3rd repeat within 4 seconds (before 4 seconds has elapsed). If 4 seconds elapse before turning the ignition ON for the 2nd or 3rd repeat, you must start over from the beginning, repeating all 3 times again.
f. Turn the ignition ON and observe the air bag warning light.
g. The air bag waning light should be ON for about 7 seconds and then go OFF, and stay OFF.
