We are having the same problem with our car - 2008 Nissan Versa hatchback. I've purchased the bushings online and am going to try and replace them myself this weekend. I will let you know how that goes.

 

What kind of bushings are they that need to be replaced?

Probably control arm bushings (rear vertical one). If so those must be a pair of OEM control arms from the dealer, labor is correct if it were for control arms since book time is probably half an hour a side, depending on how stubborn the fasteners and the ball joint is to remove. Hey maybe it does need a subframe, but you're saying bushings. Subframe bushings last the life of the vehicle since they're never exposed to rubber damaging light or any heat sources, and see limited range of motion. At 200 000 miles and if you live in a "salt/wet state" i could see it if you needed a subframe for safety inspection. If you have a copy of an estimate can you take a pic of it so i can see what they're referring to?

 

If it is the control arm bushings its a pretty easy fix. It's actually cheaper to just get new control arms with bushings in it than getting the bushings and pressing them into the old arms. The control arms are less than $50 ea on Amazon. I did it last winter in an afternoon. If you do go that route and do it yourself go get an alignment right away because you'll likely gain a ton of toe in and wear out your tires really fast.

 

I have 2008 Nissan Versa hatchback also and I was told the same thing. The bushing in the sub-frame has gone bad and you cant replace just the bushing you have to buy a new sub-frame for $700. plus another $500. for them to put it in. I love the car but I bought it used with one previous owner and I've had to replace the front springs because one broke and the control arms due to a bad ball joint. Now a sub-frame.

My daughter was told the subframe on her '07 Versa (bought in July with 72K mi on it) needs to be replaced because the bushings are shot and the bushings can't be replaced on their own because of how the subframe is manufactured.

A Google search for "Nissan Versa Subframe" reveals a number of complaints about this problem.
Anyone have any updated information about what the deal is with this?

 

I also had to replace the subframe, because of the bushings. Spent about $1000. I asked for the old subframe, so maybe we can find the right bushings. The mechanic I took it to said Nissan is not selling the bushings, just the subframes. I found a couple bushings that might be the right ones, but waiting on a response from those companies.

07Versa6MT, These are not control arm bushings. We have bushings in the subframe that seem to serve as body mounts. check out item 4 in this image.

We were told we needed our subframe changed to the tune of $1249.13. I told them the 1249 was ok but the 13 cents was outrageous. That was by the dealer after getting the new coils from the recall put on. Also was told the lower control arms need to be done too, but that is easy enough. I found these but wasn't sure if they are correct or will work. This is obviously assuming that the subframe comes off rather easy?

The bushings i posted above are incorrect. I think i might have found the correct ones on Ebay though. these should arrive tomorrow and i will be attempting to put them in this weekend. I will follow up next week.

Joey, are you going to see if those fit on the 2008 Nissan Versa subframe?

 

Taking the sub frame out isn't too hard but they say you have to replace the whole sub frame and that's where a lot of the cost is.

 

I was looking around online for just the bushings. Apparently they are only available in Europe. I am prepared to pay around $500 for the whole part, I'm trying to avoid paying another 400-500 to have it installed if i can do it my driveway with jackstands and some wrenches.

 

2010 Versa owner here. 86K miles. Just told by my dealer that the bushings in the subframe/crossmember need replaced and I have to buy the whole part. $1K installed. They also told me I need to replace the strut bearings to the tune of $600+ installed, plus an alignment. This is the kind of thing I expect from a 150K+ mile car, not a 86K mile car. Calling my independent shop for a 2nd opinion, but seriously, this is the first and last Nissan I'll ever buy.

 

Exactly. When my wife's car gets back from the dealership tomorrow with its replacement CVT that failed at 45,000 miles, we're dumping the car. We're going to take a bath on it, but this thing has had so many problems.

 

Not sure if they have all parts but RockAuto.com has ton of OEM parts for dirt cheap prices if you guys haven't check them out. Checking it right now and not sure if it's the same thing but their Subframe Mounts go for 35 bucks each.

 

Those are control arms. Not what we're talking about/replacing.

I told my dealer to go ahead and do the work, though I never expected it from a car with 86,000 miles on it. The service advisor suggested I call Nissan Consumer Affairs to see if they might be able to help with anything. So I called, spoke to someone in a foreign country, they documented my case, gave me a case number and said a "regional specialist" would call me within 24 hours. Will see if a) that happens, and b) what they have to say. Will report back.

 

They quoted you $600 to replace the strut bearings as in the upper strut mounts??

 

hi i live in the uk i have the nissan tiida 2009 the cars only done 50k and the subframe mounts are totally worn been told got to get a new subframe from the garage but spending time on google and found the european nissans the subframe mounts can be replaced without having to buy the whole subframe on ebay there about £18 each but dont say if they deliver international hopes this helps

 

my car had that job recently done(sub frame, control arms, etc..) and now soemtimes when im hitting the brakes, i have to tilt the steering wheel a little bit to the right. Did they did something wrong at the dealership??.

After my local dealership did mine, I complained to them about the alignment being off. The realigned it for free. Problem fixed.

 

I'm sorry for bringing back an old thread, but I found out yesterday that my subframe bushings are going bad. Now, the other techs I work with all say I have to replace the whole things (I work for a Nissan Dealer) yet I can find the bushings online. Has anyone replaced these? How easy was it?

have pressed out bushing and replced with new ones...they work fine.

If you search the net you can find bushings made of polyurethane...Good luck

 

Did you have to un bolt the power steering assembly just to drop the subframe out ? The repair manual makes a mention of it ... and I don't even know where to begin to access the nut side of those 2 bolts

 

It's likely the nuts are welded onto whatever they pull up against. Or clipped in place. Common. There may be no need to get to them at all. Loosen the bolts and if they keep coming further out keep on going.

I myself will be doing similar to post #25 , silly to buy entire subframe over bushings alone. Those parts are too easy to come up with out of the blue. Same with strut bearings, everybody 'changes' them, so far all I've ever done is relube them after cleaning and throw them back in the cars if not damaged. The last 4 different cars I've done that on now. So far I haven't realigned either but if needed I do that myself as well.

They tell you you MUST have this or that and often it's simply not true if you know how cars work.

I was told that both my rear bushings are shot and in need of replacement. There's a lot of creaking when going over bumps, and squeaking when cornering and going over bumps as well. There's also a lot of wandering at highway speeds. My question is, are the rear bushings on a 2013 Versa as difficult and pricey to replace? I see tons of videos and online content referring to front and sub frame bushings...But not much in regards to rear bushings. What bothers me is that my car only has 64,000 miles on it. I know bushings degrade over time, but this soon?

 

Since you're in magnesium chloride country (road salt), just curious if did you do any undercoating? That stuff is wrecking havoc on cars!

 

If the bushing are bad all you have to do is unbolt the bolts holding the bushing in, loosen the subfram bolts a bit and let it drop down and hold it open with a block of wood. UTube has at least two videos on the process, All you have to do is replace the bushing which cost under 50 bucks on ebay. Those 1000-1200 quotes are total ripoffs. two hours tops. I would check the torque mounts and the engine mounts as well as the transmission mounts when you are working on the car as they may be going as well, total parts for everything are under 200 dollars on ebay.

 

The parts are cheap on ebay, the process is on Utube. as to the 64,000 miles, nissan makes low quality parts for a lot of its cars and always has including this one.
