Buying 2012 Versa

Hey Guys!
Now new to forums or Hondas but I am definitely new to Nissans. Anyways, im basically looking for any "What to look out for" or "What lies ahead" if I do purchase a new Versa.

I am looking to buy a 2012 manual sedan (manual locks, windows, etc.) w/ the 1.6 for roughly $11k which seems to be an amazing deal!

So, what about the quality of the Versa? Are there any maintenance service items I need to look out for? I am used to the timing belt service for Hondas. Does the Versa have an interference motor? Also, I read some reviews about terrible handling on the interstate when it is windy, is there any truth to that?

I appreciate all helpful advice and pointers!

Thanks! :)

Thats good. And as far as I know, the higher end models have a different cluster so that must be why. You can always swap clusters though. :D
Can you swap clusters from a 2012 sedan to a hatchback?

I doubt it:

I took a 360 view of the 2012 and I thought possible but when you lay them out like that I can see that its not. Thanks though! Just curious...
With custom work you can. I was saying he can get a cluster off an SV or SL sedan and swap it on his sedan.
lol no thanks. Ive dealt with wiring and i dont want anymore of those headaches!
Bought my 2012 Versa yesterday!

Went with metallic gray because the blue one had 165 miles and didn't feel tight and also had some clunking. The gray one still had all the plastic and only ten miles. In addition, the dealership had an awesome test track complete with tight corners, hills, and a wet skid part! Awesome!

Already got the center console/armrest installed, put anti-seize on the valve stems, in addition to some nice rubber floormats before winter. Now has 135 miles on it from the drive home. 7 year manufacture warranty and lifetime warranty on the trans/motor.

However, when they were detailing it real quick they cracked my rearview mirror so I gotta get that replaced at my local dealership. In addition, on the way back home (2 hour drive) the steering wheel shook pretty good at 70mph. Not only are the tires installed incorrectly except for one (the yellow grease dot does not line up with the valve stem) but there is a bulge on the right front tire.

So, we'll see how this goes with the local Nissan balancing my wheels and what they'll do about the bulge in the tire.

I bought my 2012 Versa S model two months ago in manual trans. $10,990.
A great little car. After it breaks in, I find the manual transmission to be smooth and more powerful than I expected, especially on highway on-ramps and in the passing lane.
Congrats on your purchase guys.

How did you get yours so cheap? If you dont mind me asking. I got mine for $11,399 but that was in 2010(purchased new). I heard the starting price on the current model is $13K. Does it have A/C and stuff? One of my brothers is looking for a car. :ihih:

S is now the Base Model, SV is the old S, and SL is the same. The base comes in about $10k - $11k for the manual.
I know that but the 1st 2012 S sedan I saw was almost $14K. Maybe because it was automatic?
i bought a 2012 S last month. the internet price was 11,770 and when i got there they tried to say it was 12,600 because of some BS stuff they added to vehicle like wheel locks etc. long story short i got them to honor the 11,770 and with a $600 dealer fee and taxes the grand total was right at 13,000. this is for an S model, it has a/c and cd/aux input. thats about it. manual locks and windows. i love the car so far, i get 30 mpg driving it around town like im dale Jr.
@I <3 My HR16DE To get the 10,990 price you have to get the manual (I got this model) and the automatic starts at the high 13s I believe, not exactly sure but ya that's how they get you. That's only the car price though that doesn't include fees (shipping, dealer, tag, ect.)

@VeyronXZ I agree with the manual having a bit more pick up than expected, especially if you turn off the a/c before you downshift, I can actually keep up with the other cars trying to pick up speed as well haha

@Versa12 I'm jealous of that test track you got to try out your Versa on, I wish mine had that haha

@12versaS I did the same thing with mine haha they added door protectors and floor mats but I just wanted the most basic Versa so they dropped it down and that was what I paid, I guess we did pretty good lol
Dropped the car off at the shop this morning. We'll see what they find.

Im guessing they'll replace the RF tire and balance all 4 wheels in addition to replacing the rearview mirror.
I bought the base "S" model for $10.990. 5 speed manual transmission w/ no options, no mats, no tachometer, but comes with A/C standard and traction control, plus front, side and curtain airbags, ABS, AM/FM w/ CD + auxiliary input jack (great for streaming internet radio and Sirius XM via iphone, and GPS apps) and has a good safety rating. The rear seat is huge, and the trunk capacity is fantastic. I'm impressed with the handling of my little car. I owned a 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro 5spd manual sport before this. Obviously a different animal, but for less than $11K, I'm very impressed with what Nissan has packed into this car.
Forgot to update.

They replaced the tire and said they balanced the wheels but after putting 1,000 miles on it in two weeks the shaking never went away. I have to go back anyways to get the rearview mirror replaced.

Oh, and I realized today that my trunk does not have a trunk light even though I have the cruise control, rear speakers, and trunk light package. Guess ill have to bring that to their attention as well.
Did you get the S model? I guess there's different versions of each model. I wish mine had CC but most of my driving is city so I wouldn't really use it.
Sure is. But I added the cruise control package.
That's nice. Does it have the factory alarm?
Hey man greetings from texas. I own a 2012 sedan s model 5 speed. I love the car so far, great on MPG's. its a nice little car on the outside, with great room on the inside. The only thing i've found i didnt like was the car is a little prone to get pushed around in windy conditions. Most noticable at high speeds. But again i live in texas so the winds can get pretty bad for me. So this may not be a big factor for some
^^^ That shaking should be the wheels. Mine came 14s and like you said, it would shake at higher speeds(usually around 65-70MPH), it stopped when I upgraded to 15s. I went from 185-65-14 to 205-60-15.
